WHY HIKE FOR HOSPICES?

Hospices have an increasingly important role in society, caring for people with life threatening illnesses not only in centres but increasingly in peoples homes providing a wide range of support. However, only a tiny fraction of the money needed to run them is provided from government funding (as little as 10%). We want to help provide some of the missing funds for this essential service.

Hike 4 Hospices is a unique sponsored walk in that it:
Supports 4 different Sussex Hospices
Spans two days
Is divided into 6 legs allowing people of all abilities to take part
Is organised by over twenty Rotary Clubs
Is entirely on the South Downs

All of the money raised (£112,000 in the first three years) goes to the 4 Hospices in equal shares. There are no paid employees of Hike 4 Hospices.

Not only is this a great cause, but it’s healthy and FUN!!!

The 2009 Hike 4 Hospices took place along the South Downs Way between Lewes and Goodwood on 22nd and 23rd August 2009. Some four hundred walkers took part and to each of them we would like to say a big "Thank You".
